Amid uproar in Parliament, 14 opposition MPs suspended

Amid ruckus in Parliament over security breach, 14 opposition MPs have been suspended for the remaining days of the winter session. MPs who have been suspended from Parliament, nine are from Congress, two from CPM, one from DMK and one from CPI party.

The Congress MPs who have been suspended include S Jothimani, Ramya Haridas, TN Prathapan, Jothimani, and Hibi Eden.During this, opposition MPs were seen continuously raising slogans against the government. The proposal for suspension of these MPs was brought by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi, which was passed by Bhartrihari Mahatab, who was sitting on the Speaker’s chair.

Earlier, TMC MP Derek O’Brien was suspended from Rajya Sabha. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar warned Derek O’Brien by taking his name. Earlier in the morning too, his name was taken for ‘misbehaviour’ and the Chairman asked him to leave the House.

Later accusing Derek O’Brien of disobeying the instructions given by the Chair and disrupting the proceedings of the House, the Chairman allowed House leader Piyush Goyal to move a motion against him in this matter. This motion was passed by voice vote, after which the Speaker announced the suspension of Derek O’Brien from the House for the remainder of the session.

The opposition continued to create ruckus in both the Houses on the issue of breach in the security of Parliament. Despite repeated appeals by the Speaker to maintain peace in the Lok Sabha, many opposition MPs continued to create ruckus. When the House proceedings resumed at 2 pm after one adjournment, the opposition members again started creating ruckus.

Meanwhile in another significant move Lok Sabha Secretariat has suspended 8 security personnel for security lapses. Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the arrested accused under the anti-terrorism law UAPA. Raids are going on in search of Lalit Jha, the sixth accused and said to be the mastermind of the Parliament scandal.
