Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Syed Modi India International Badminton Tournament 2023 in Lucknow on Tuesday. On this occasion, he himself reached the badminton court and played shots.

Syed Modi India International Badminton Tournament is one of the prestigious sports competitions of the country. For the Badminton championship stars have gathered in Lucknow along with many famous faces.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that our players get many times more medals in the Olympics than before. Recently we have seen the performance of Indian players in the Asian Games. For the first time, our players have crossed the 100 mark in the Asian Games and in the Para Asian Games too, our players have performed brilliantly and won more than 100 medals for the country.

The UP Chief Minister assured all kinds of cooperation to the players in Uttar Pradesh. He said that the positive attitude of the Center and the State towards sports activities is also a new platform for our players and I also assure them of all possible support from the government to make their future bright

Taking about the history of the Badminton championship, he said that this was started in Uttar Pradesh in 1991 in the memory of Syed Modi, who had the distinction of being an eight-time badminton national champion and also a Commonwealth Games gold winner. This competition received international recognition in 2004. Its prizemoney was later increased to US$1.5 lakh by the Badminton World Federation.

Uttar Pradesh Badminton Association President Dr. Navneet Sehgal, BBD Group Chairman Alka Das, Principal Secretary Home Sanjay Prasad, Sports Secretary Suhas LY, Sports Director Dr. RP Singh etc. were also present at the inaugration event of Syed Modi India International Badminton Tournament.
