CLAT UG & PG : The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is the gateway to India’s top National Law Universities (NLUs). With thousands of students competing every year, understanding the eligibility criteria for both UG and PG levels is essential. CLAT 2026 will be conducted by the Consortium of NLUs for admission to integrated LLB and LLM programs. This article breaks down eligibility requirements, age limits, reservation policies, and special category rules to help you determine if you’re qualified to apply.

CLAT UG Eligibility Criteria

1. Educational Qualification
To apply for CLAT UG, candidates must have passed the Class 12 examination or an equivalent qualification from a recognized board or institution. Students currently appearing in Class 12 in 2026 are also eligible to apply, provided they submit proof of qualification at the time of admission.

  • General/OBC/PwD/NRI/PIO/OCI candidates: 45% marks
  • SC/ST candidates: 40% marks

3. Age Limit
There is no upper age limit to appear for CLAT UG. This decision has been upheld by the Supreme Court and ensures fair opportunities for candidates of all age groups.

4. Number of Attempts
There is no restriction on the number of attempts a candidate can make for CLAT UG. As long as the eligibility criteria are met, one can apply multiple times.

CLAT PG Eligibility Criteria

1. Educational Qualification
Candidates must hold an LL.B. degree (either a 3-year LLB or a 5-year integrated LLB) from a recognized university. Final-year students awaiting results can also apply provisionally but must produce proof at the time of admission.

The marks required in the qualifying examination are:

  • General/OBC/PwD/NRI/PIO/OCI candidates: 50% marks
  • SC/ST candidates: 45% marks
