Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday (7 May). Rohit Sharma retired from the shortest format of cricket after India became the T20 World Cup champion in 2024. He will continue to play ODI cricket.
Rohit posted a photo of the Team India Test cap on his Instagram Story. He wrote, “Hello everyone I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years.”
Rohit scored 12 Test centuries
Rohit Sharma’s 11-year career in the longest format of cricket has come to an end. During this, Rohit played 67 Tests, of which he captained 24. He took over the reins of the team from Virat Kohli in 2022. He has scored a total of 4301 runs including 12 centuries. Under his leadership, India won 12 Tests and lost 9 matches. He captained India against Australia in the World Test Championship Final 2023.
Rohit’s average in Australia was 24.38 and in South Africa it was 16.63. However, in England he scored at an average of 44.66. He had also scored a century while opening on the last tour. After Rohit’s retirement, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul can now be seen opening in England.
